  • Based in Buenos Aires, m7red is an urban resources network with archives, laboratories and consulting offices. M7red was founded by Mauricio Corbalan and Pio Torroja in 2005. Since then, they have been working with a wide range of experts and non-experts, analyzing, discussing, researching and making proposals on the most pressing political and urban topics. We are working on the boundaries between an NGO, a research group, urban consulting and a strategic forum.

    Douala water mapping project

The term 'material commonalities' is a reference to Walter Benjamin's language of things; as we develop new forms of mapping human and non-human actors, questions of representation remain central and continue to take their inspiration from multiple practices of visualization (including the documentary aesthetic of essay filmmakers like Angela Melitopolous andHito Steyerl).

Discussions began in the context of a stay in Douala in 2010, which included first attempts to document the multiple registers of water (fresh water, pollution, infrastructures, individual practices of use) and suggested the need for a decentralized, 'crowdsourced' approach - which lead to a cooperation with the crowdsourcing platform ushahidi.

Douala water is a collaboration project using Ushahidi for SUD 2010.
